Every year around this time when the leaves begin to turn and the air turns crisp, the furries gather for fun, games, and stuffing their faces. That’s right, it was time for the Triangle Furs annual thanksgiving pot luck! Food, friends, and festivities were had at Umstead state park in Raleigh NC and as usual, kids big and small had a blast. This always turns out to be the largest fur meet we have all year and this year was no exception. Over 100 people showed up, including some faces we don’t get to see very often. Folks come as far as South Carolina and Virginia to partake in the fun. The day was cold, but a large fire in the fireplace and warm drinks kept us toasty in the November chill. It wouldn’t feel like a proper holiday without these incredible people. (keep those fursuits away from the open flame!)
A friend of mine was given a few days at a rental cabin this past weekend, and he asked me to go! Of course I jumped at it, and we made it a super fun, furry weekend in the woods! Let me tell you about this cabin, this is an awesome cabin! It was at “Little Valley Mountain resort” in Sevierville Tennessee a few miles from Pigeon Forge. This place has multiple cabins, but the cabin we were in was called “Grin n’ Bear It”. The whole thing was decorated in a black bear theme. It had a fireplace, a jacuzzi bath tub, and a hot tub on a private outdoor deck! Skinny dipping abound I’ll tell you. Another I would have liked to have seen was “The Fox Den” Which I would assume has appropriately themed fox decor. I wouldn’t go to that 3 floor beauty unless I was splitting it with quite a few other people though. There was also one named “Wild Willow” which I thought was quite a fun name. For the most part we just hung out, talked and drank for most of it. There was also a outdoor fire pit, but we didn’t get a chance to use that because of the weather. That weekend was way too short and way too fun, and I think we’re going to make it an annual event. I had far too good a time not to agree to that!

Vermont is one of those places that is full of quaint little hidey-holes filled with their own little wonders, and coffee houses are no exception. In my home town of Barre there is a place that opened up a few years back called “Espresso Bueno”. I’m a bit of a coffee addict (those who know me can attest), and I was ecstatic to have found this little gem right down on main street on one of my adventures back up north.
Decorated as you might expect, the place has dim lighting, cozy chairs, and a warm atmosphere with local art and photography hanging from its muted walls. They have all the standard coffee house fare: panini, muffins, espresso drinks of all kinds. However, what makes this little corner really shine is their house special, the Maple Latte. It has a very rich maple flavor that you could only get from Vermont maple and gives it just the right amount of sweetness. I hate it when my coffee is too sweet. Just to add a little artistic flare to their drinks, each one is topped with latte art of a fern leaf.
I make it a point to make it there at least once every trip back home, and if you ever find yourself in Barre Vermont, I encourage you to stop in.
